Hey there, my dear friend! Please pull up a chair and chat over some pizza tales from our recent adventure. Karen and I had quite the experience when we stumbled upon Village Pizza & Deli in New Athens a couple of weeks ago. It was dinner time and we thought we would be daring and try the pizza place in New Athens. Let me take you on a delightful journey through flavors and fond memories.
Chicago-style stuffed pizza
As we sat down in the cozy ambiance, we couldn’t resist ordering a Chicago-style stuffed pizza with sausage and onions. Oh, my, it was a treat! The first bite took us by surprise. The taste of the pizza brought all the flavors together, yet each ingredient tasted distinct. It was like a symphony of flavors dancing on our taste buds.
What added to the charm of the experience was the quaint small-town feeling that Village Pizza & Deli’s storefront exuded. It felt like we were back in time, enjoying the simple pleasures of life. I knew right then that this place held something special, and we’d definitely return in the future.
Now, let me tell you about the pizza itself. The moment we took a bite, we noticed a unique twist – a slightly sweet flavor that elevated the entire experience. It was an unexpected but delightful touch that made their pizza stand out from the rest.
Family-owned legacy
But what makes Village Pizza & Deli truly special is its family-owned legacy. Gaetano Patti, the owner, is a passionate pizza maestro. And you can tell that their recipes are a blend of old and New World cuisine, carrying a taste that’s both traditional and innovative.
Karen and I learned that the dough and sauces are homemade, adding that comforting homemade touch that you can’t find in just any pizza joint. Each bite was a testament to the love and dedication poured into crafting their pizzas.
Highly recommended
We were so impressed with our dining experience that we couldn’t stop raving about Village Pizza & Deli to everyone we know. Karen and I highly recommend their pizza to anyone who craves a delightful culinary adventure.
So, my friend, if you ever find yourself near New Athens, make sure to drop by Village Pizza & Deli for a slice of heaven. You’ll find great food, a warm atmosphere, and a piece of Gaetano’s heart in each pizza they serve.
Life’s full of serendipitous encounters, and this pizza adventure was one we’ll treasure for years to come. Let’s cherish the flavors of life together until we meet again for another slice and a chat.

We hope you are enjoying these articles and are willing to continue to follow along as we move through the process of selling our house, buying a new house (to become our home), and the adventures of learning about life in southern Illinois.
We’re Bruce and Karen Carlson. We recently moved to the Metro East area of Illinois. This area is east of St. Louis from the Mississippi River north to Alton, east to Carlyle, back south to Waterloo and the Mississippi River, finally north to Columbia. The center is Fairview Heights, Swansea, Belleville, Shiloh, and O'Fallon. Not to be forgotten is Southern Illinois University (SIU) in Edwardsville. It’s a whole new world out there. Our goal with this website is to share our exploration of the Metro East area. As we find businesses and services we use in our daily lives, we’ll share how these businesses and services have helped make our lives better and easier to live.
We’re calling our move to the Metro East area retirement, but we’re not quite sure what that means. By sharing our story with you, we hope you too will gain a better sense of what the Metro East area has to offer and how their businesses and services can improve your lives and build a better community.
