I gotta tell ya, folks, if you’re looking for some a-maze-ing fun in Metro Northeast Illinois this fall, you’ve come to the right place! Corn mazes have become quite the popular pastime around these parts, and I’m here to be your guide.
Northern Illinois’ favorite corn mazes
Back in the north end of Illinois, there were several corn mazes we would visit during the fall. Kuipers was one we took the grandkids to. They had other farm-related things you could do. During the fall season, the farm transforms into a fall festival, offering a wide range of activities including hayrides, corn mazes, pig races, and petting zoos. Visitors can also pick their own pumpkins from the farm’s pumpkin patch, ensuring a truly authentic farm experience. The farm is known for its vast selection of pumpkins, ranging from small decorative ones to large ones perfect for carving.
We also visited Keller’s Farmstand. It was close to the house and easy to get to. They also had some good items to buy in their country store. Beyond the farm market, Keller’s Farmstand also offers various seasonal activities and events for visitors of all ages. During the fall, they host a pumpkin patch where families can pick their own pumpkins and enjoy hayrides. They also have a corn maze and other fun attractions to make the visit enjoyable for everyone. In the summer, visitors can partake in the famous sweet corn festival, where they can indulge in all things corn-related, including corn-eating contests and corn-themed games.
Of course, the premiere corn maze was Richardson’s Adventure Farm. They claim to have be the largest corn maze in the world. I believe their maze was 33 acres. Each year is a different theme for this year the theme is Bond, James Bond. During the fall season, the farm also hosts special events such as flashlight nights in the corn maze and a pumpkin festival. Visitors can also enjoy delicious farm-fresh food and drinks at the on-site market and cafe.
Metro East corn mazes
But now we’re in the Metro East area by St. Louis and we’ll have to find some new corn mazes to explore. Thanks to good old Google I could ask it for corn mazes near me. Some of the ones that came up were;
Eckerts Country Store & Farms:
We’re a little familiar with Eckert’s. We wrote in a blog earlier about their pic-your-own peach. They also have the same for apples. We’re looking forward to doing that soon. In addition to the pick-your-own program, Eckert’s offers a variety of other activities and experiences for visitors of all ages. They have a petting farm, where children can interact with farm animals such as goats, pigs, and chickens. The corn maze at Eckert’s is created each year with meticulous planning and design. The farm dedicates a significant portion of its land to growing corn specifically for the maze. The design of the maze is carefully thought out and usually follows a unique theme, which changes annually to keep the experience fresh and exciting.
The maze is typically opened to the public in late summer or early fall and remains open until Halloween. Visitors can embark on an adventure through the towering corn stalks and navigate the twists and turns of the maze. The paths within the maze are well-maintained, making it accessible to people of all ages and physical abilities. It looks like Eckert’s has two corn mazes, one at the Grafton and Milstadt farms. More information can be found here.
Each year, Relleke Farms designs a new corn maze theme, keeping the experience fresh and exciting for repeat visitors. The design is carefully planned and executed to create a challenging and entertaining experience for maze-goers. The maze spans over several acres, with towering cornstalks creating walls and pathways that wind and twist through the field.
The corn maze at Relleke Farms is not your typical, run-of-the-mill maze. It offers a variety of levels, catering to different skill levels and ages. There are easy routes for families with young children, and more challenging paths for those seeking an adrenaline rush. The maze is also handicap accessible, ensuring that everyone can participate in the fun. More information can be found here.
Pumpkin Blossom Hill:
The Pumpkin Blossom Hill corn maze is known for its intricate and challenging designs that are carved into acres of cornfields. Each year, the maze is redesigned with a new theme, providing visitors with a fresh and exciting experience. From whimsical characters and animals to famous landmarks and historical events, the corn maze designs are always innovative and captivating.
The maze is open during the fall season, typically from September to October, coinciding with the harvest season. The corn maze is an ideal destination for families looking for a fun-filled day out or groups of friends seeking a thrilling adventure. The maze offers a range of activities to keep visitors entertained, including hayrides, pumpkin picking, and a petting zoo. More information can be found here.
